Beware of Scam Calls Alleging to Be from Wood County Sheriff Department

WOOD COUNTY, WI (OnFocus) – Wood County Sheriff Department has been made aware of a recent surge in scam calls targeting residents within their jurisdiction. In these fraudulent calls, the scammer falsely identifies themselves as a member of Wood County Sheriff Department staff and claims that the recipient of the call is required to make a payment related to missing jury duty.

The department wants to alert the public to these deceptive tactics and emphasize the importance of safeguarding personal and financial information. It is imperative that individuals do not disclose sensitive details over the phone, especially when prompted by unsolicited callers.

If you receive a call that raises suspicion or seems unusual, WCS urges you to terminate the call immediately and contact dispatch through a known and published number to verify its authenticity. Remember, Wood County Sheriff Department will never demand payment, gift cards, or cryptocurrency to resolve any matter.
