WOOD COUNTY, WI (OnFocus) — The Wood County Sheriff’s Department is alerting residents to an increase in scam calls involving individuals falsely identifying themselves as deputies from our office. The callers claim to have urgent legal matters to discuss or falsely assert that the recipient has an active warrant.

Important Warning: The Wood County Sheriff’s Department will never ask for payment, gift cards, or cryptocurrency over the phone to resolve any issue. Do not provide any financial or personal information during these calls.

What You Should Do: If you receive such a call and feel something is not right, hang up immediately. To verify the legitimacy of the call, contact dispatch at a known, published number (715-421-8701). Remember, they will never demand payments of any kind over the phone.
