Woodchucks Outlast Rockers in Pitching Duel

The Woodchucks bring in a win as they hold off the Green Bay Rockers in a pitcher’s duel on a scorcher of a June afternoon. The Chucks advance to 7-8 on the season, while the Rockers fall to 4-11.

Brent Widder (Evansville) starts the Chucks off in the third inning with a double, but couldn’t make it in to score. The Rockers retaliated with a solo shot home run, but the Chucks wouldn’t let them get away with it.

The Chucks get two runners on in the 7th inning on two consecutive walks, and runners advanced on a wild pitch to second and third. Mark Shallenberger (Evansville) scores on a fielder’s choice to tie the game. Widder drove a single into center to score Ryan Sepede (BYU), allowing the Chucks to take the lead 2-1. Widder takes third on an error throw from home to second sneaks back to the outfield.

The Rockers threatened with two runners on the corners in the top of the ninth, but they couldn’t drive any in. The Chucks power through to take the 2-1 victory.
