Woodchucks Score Two in Eighth to Take Game One
WAUSAU, Wis. – Wausau would fold Fond du Lac Friday evening at Athletic Park, winning 2-1 and maintaining their first place standing in the Great Lakes West.
The Dock Spiders (11-21) would post their only run in the second off an RBI double to right field.
Wausau (19-13) would not answer until the eighth, scoring two runs. One came off a Simon Scherry (Evansville) RBI single, allowing Jesse Donohoe (Georgia State) to get the Woodchucks on the board.
Jake Baker (Kansas) would then work a walk later in the same inning to score the winning run in Drew Berkland (Minnesota).
Key Moments:
Baker would also record a couple of hits as part of a 2/3 night.
Brian Reinke (Richmond) picked up the save, going one-two-three in the ninth striking out two.
There was an illegal bat usage by Fond du Lac in the game, and it caused a pivotal second out in the top of the eighth.
